Inter-Group Cooperation
As stated at the home page, the objective here is to support inter-group cooperation among progressive Muslim groups working on social and cultural reforms in the UK and elsewhere. Cooperation is meant to encompass all mutually beneficial areas, subject to agreement among groups. It can facilitate cooperative assistance and joint activities, the former can start from the display of each other's web links: to websites, important events and selected publications, and the latter can include joint projects, joint events, seminars and conferences.
After the creation of our website we approached Dr Ghayasuddin Siddiqui [of Muslim Institute\Parliament] to convene a meeting of all the like-minded progressive groups, so that a programme of cooperation can be initiated. He agreed, and the result was the meeting of Saturday 04 April in London. Subsequent to this meeting, we also issued a follow-up invitation to appropriate groups to join in a cooperation framework. MPJP Invitation/membership
MPJP [Muslims for Peace, Justice and Progress] is an international group based in the USA [website mpjp.org] Its membership includes reformists such as Prof Abdullahi An-Naim, Edip Yuksel, Irshad Manji, Fereydoun Taslimi (who promotes science among Muslims), Dr Taj Hargey, Dr Ghayasuddin Siddiqui. Following its invitation to us, we have become the third British member [July 20, 2009]. I presume that this group will facilitate inter-group cooperation.
